This Week’s Share-- Not good enough? Let’s make up for it with hard work!

1
Near my workplace, there are several breakfast shops, but most of them can’t last half a year before running into losses and changing owners frequently. Only one husband-and-wife-run breakfast shop has been here for nearly ten years—offering affordable prices while generating a steady, substantial income. Their secret, however, lies in a few factors that might seem insignificant at first glance.
First of all, though this shop is small, it’s kept neat and well-organized; even the exposed work counters are spotless, giving customers an immediate sense of cleanliness and peace of mind when dining.
Secondly, the husband and wife who run this shop are incredibly hardworking: they open at 5:30 every morning and don’t close until noon, even on holidays.
Moreover, the service at this shop is exceptionally friendly; the staff are always warm and approachable, and even when customers press them for speed, they never show the slightest hint of impatience.
In fact, this shop sells pretty much the same items as others—and its food doesn’t even taste as good. But the reason it’s still here today is largely due to sheer hard work. While other places open whenever they feel like it and close when they don’t, this store has always been open, and over time, it’s built a genuine connection with its customers.
You have to admit that sometimes, a person’s success doesn’t require any dazzling advantages; as long as you’re persistent and work hard, and leverage your own unique core strengths, you can still carve out your place.
                                                                                                      2
A friend’s company has an administrative assistant who isn’t particularly talented, yet she always manages to come out unscathed whenever the company carries out layoffs.
This employee is actually rather clumsy; despite trying to improve herself, the results have been hardly noticeable. So she figured: if I can’t do the important things well, then at least I’ll make the seemingly unimportant tasks look really polished.
For example, she’s particularly skilled at records management. Although the task doesn’t demand high technical expertise, it calls for meticulous attention to detail and patience—qualities she excels in. As a result, she has organized the company’s entire archive in perfect order.
For example, she’s exceptionally good at welcoming guests. Though it may seem like nothing more than serving tea and water, mastering the art of graciousness—knowing just how far to go and where to draw the line, so that guests feel truly at home—requires careful thought and deliberate effort.
For another example, she’s quite the pro when it comes to ordering takeout. She knows exactly what everyone in the company likes to eat and what they should avoid. She also manages to balance nutritional considerations, control portion sizes, and pick the best value—all while keeping everything within budget.
Most of her strengths are rather subtle, yet she handles everything with meticulous care, leaving no room for criticism.
Perhaps, more often than not, we may not get to play the lead or accomplish great things, but at least we should strive to excel in our supporting roles and do even the smallest tasks well. Once you approach your work with a serious and dedicated attitude, you can be sure that your efforts will not go unrewarded.
                                                                                                    3
In real life, we often come up with countless excuses for our shortcomings. Yet in truth, those who aren’t naturally gifted can still strive to make up for their innate limitations, break free from the constraints of external circumstances, and forge a new path forward.
People who know how to run a business don’t necessarily need an exceptionally sharp mind or some secret formula; if they can accurately identify customer needs, diligently deliver high-quality products, and consistently improve their service, they can still build a steady stream of loyal customers.
An employee who is entrusted with important responsibilities doesn’t necessarily have to be a top-tier talent; if they approach every task with diligence and dedication, they can still earn their leader’s trust.
In fact, there aren’t many people who are truly exceptionally capable, talented, and gifted. If you’re willing to work hard, you can still bring good fortune into your own life.

Don’t make any excuses for your laziness or lack of diligence. More often than not, how well you live has little to do with whether you’re exceptional, but everything to do with how hard you strive.
